WFP's Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Technical Working Group (TWG) aims to build a community of stakeholders around the safe and responsible use of drones in humanitarian activities. The TWG serves as a platform to exchange ideas, best practices and help improve multi-stakeholder buy-in and coordination. The Connectivity TWG is one of four key areas of focus.
The Connectivity Technical Working Group aims to investigate the uses of both tethered and untethered UAS (drones) to be able to provide connectivity solutions in emergency and steady state operations. Our goal is to build knowledge in these areas and establish guidance documents and best practices to ensure the effective, safe, and ethical use of UAS in providing connectivity solutions for affected communities and aid workers.
The group hosts several outside experts to present their work to the members in the spirit of cooperation and information sharing as well as to initiate constructive conversations that will enrich the experience and work of the TWG members. Please don’t hesitate to contact the chair or co-chair if you see that the work of your organization/entity will bring an added value to this TWG and members.
