WFP's Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Technical Working Group (TWG) aims to build a community of stakeholders around the safe and responsible use of drones in humanitarian activities. The TWG serves as a platform to exchange ideas, best practices and help improve multi-stakeholder buy-in and coordination. The Regulation and Operation TWG is one of four key areas of focus.
The safety and efficiency of UAS operations are very much shaped by the regulatory environment but for several reasons national and international UAS regulations are not harmonised and, in some cases, they are completely absent. The Regulations & Operations Technical Working Group seeks to solve some of the regulatory anomalies for the humanitarian community and to enhance the UAS operational knowledge base.
The group hosts several outside experts to present their work to the members in the spirit of cooperation and information sharing as well as to initiate constructive conversations that will enrich the experience and work of the TWG members. Please don’t hesitate to contact the chair or co-chair if you see that the work of your organization/entity will bring an added value to this TWG and members.
